Interview with Bernd Roegele, Managing Director of Roegele, and Daniel Vizuete, Sales Director of ENGEL

Bernd Roegele and Daniel Vizuete underline the continuity of a business model built on close customer relationships and strong service support, while highlighting greater global integration, innovation and sustainability in the Spanish market.

After more than five decades of collaboration between Roegele and ENGEL in Spain, what defines this moment of transition and why can it be seen as a natural evolution of the project?

Bernd Roegele:
This transition is the logical outcome of a partnership spanning more than fifty years, built on mutual trust, shared growth and a common understanding of the market. Roegele has supported ENGEL’s development in Spain through a strong local organisation and a very close relationship with customers. The creation of ENGEL Machinery Spain represents a natural step forward. It allows the Spanish market to be more closely integrated into ENGEL’s global structure while preserving the core values that have defined the project from the beginning and strengthening its long-term potential.

Which elements of the model developed so far are essential to preserve in order to maintain continuity and customer confidence?

Daniel Vizuete:
Three key elements remain unchanged: close customer relationships, the high technical expertise of the team and a partnership based on long-term trust. Customers particularly value knowing the people behind the company, the speed of response and our ability to understand their production processes. That culture remains central to the business and will be further reinforced within the new structure.

What does this new phase bring in terms of structure, capabilities and market positioning in Spain?

Bernd Roegele:
The main change is direct integration into ENGEL’s global organisation. This means greater resources, more aligned processes and enhanced responsiveness. ENGEL Machinery Spain strengthens its position as a full technology partner — not only as a machinery supplier but as a partner capable of delivering complete solutions combining machinery, automation, digitalisation and service.

Innovation is one of ENGEL’s core pillars. In which technological areas is the competitiveness of the plastics industry being shaped today, and how is the company addressing these challenges?

Daniel Vizuete:
Competitiveness today is driven by areas such as smart automation, process digitalisation, energy efficiency, process stability and production flexibility. ENGEL addresses these challenges with integrated solutions — from highly efficient injection moulding machines to digital tools such as iQ systems, advanced process control, robot integration and complete turnkey production cells. The focus is always practical: helping customers achieve measurable improvements and a clear return on investment.

Sustainability and energy efficiency have become strategic priorities. How are these objectives translated into concrete solutions for industrial customers?

Bernd Roegele:
At ENGEL, sustainability is not just a concept — it is a tangible competitive advantage. It means machines with lower energy consumption, technologies designed to process recycled materials, stable production processes that minimise scrap and solutions that optimise the use of resources. In this way, customers can meet their environmental targets while maintaining productivity and product quality.

How is the role of technical service and local support evolving in a context of increasing technological complexity and operational demands?

Daniel Vizuete:
Technical service is increasingly shifting from a reactive approach to a proactive and preventive one. With greater technological complexity comes the need for highly qualified technicians, remote support capabilities, data analysis and close collaboration with customers. At the same time, local support remains essential. Understanding the customer’s production environment and maintaining a close relationship makes a real difference when it comes to machine availability and operational efficiency.

From the customer’s perspective, what practical improvements will be noticeable in commercial relations and technical support during this new phase?

Daniel Vizuete:
Customers will benefit from faster decision-making processes, direct access to ENGEL’s global resources and even closer coordination between sales, service and manufacturing. This leads to quicker responses, better integrated projects and a more strategic partnership — while maintaining the same trusted local team.

The Spanish market has a highly diverse industrial landscape. What specific opportunities do you see in this context?

Bernd Roegele:
Spain has a very dynamic industrial base, particularly in sectors such as automotive, packaging, medical and technical applications. There are significant opportunities in plant modernisation, progressive automation and the adaptation to new materials and regulatory requirements. ENGEL can provide scalable solutions that fit both large industrial groups and highly specialised mid-sized companies.

In the medium term, what role do you expect to play within the Spanish and European industrial ecosystem?

Daniel Vizuete:
Our goal is to strengthen our position as a trusted technology partner, supporting customers in their industrial transformation. In the medium term, we also aim to reinforce Spain’s importance as a strategic market within ENGEL Europe and contribute to a plastics industry that is more efficient, innovative and sustainable.

Equiplast 2026 will bring together the plastics industry in Barcelona. How can the event help companies move forward in terms of innovation, efficiency and competitiveness?

Bernd Roegele:
Equiplast is an important platform for exchanging knowledge, identifying trends and showcasing practical solutions. It helps connect technology with real industrial applications, present concrete case studies and encourage collaboration between machinery manufacturers, processors and technology providers. As a Global Partner, ENGEL is committed to contributing actively to making Equiplast a valuable meeting point for the industry — a place that inspires ideas and supports the future development of the sector.
