Sergio Douma, CEO and Managing Director of Comercial Douma
Comercial Douma, a family-run company based in Barcelona since 1987, represents leading global manufacturers in Spain and Portugal in the field of machinery for plastics processing and recycling. In addition to its commercial activity, the company has its own expert technical service, responsible for the installation, calibration and maintenance of equipment. In 2026, it will once again be a Global Partner of Equiplast, an event it has attended without fail for the past 35 years.
What are the strengths of Comercial Douma — the aspects that set you apart from your competitors?
From the outset, we have always carried out a very careful selection of leading technology manufacturers, which has enabled us to offer advanced, proven and customised solutions tailored to the specific needs of each client — and this is what truly makes the difference.
Furthermore, our comprehensive equipment offering for each application has helped us to specialise in the various sectors we serve, supported by our own certified technical service and ongoing training across all relevant areas.
But most importantly, we have succeeded in building a motivated human team that has quickly embraced and adapted to our working philosophy and company values.
What criteria do you follow when selecting your technology partners, and how do you ensure that the solutions you offer remain at the cutting edge of the sector?
We make a constant effort to stay informed about the latest and most advanced technologies emerging in the industry, identifying the most valuable and distinctive solutions for the market. Our partners are always technology-leading manufacturers who show their trust in our company by recommending us as their preferred partner. We complement this work through our presence at international trade fairs and ongoing research and learning through multiple channels.
In a context where circular economy and sustainability are global priorities, how are the extrusion and recycling solutions offered by Comercial Douma contributing to more efficient and environmentally friendly production?
Comercial Douma began representing manufacturers of plastic recycling machinery in 1991, which demonstrates our commitment to this activity from early on. We facilitate not only the recovery and reprocessing of material — closing the industrial closed-loop production cycle — but also the supply of complete plants for shredding, washing, extrusion and filtration of waste materials.
Our portfolio of sustainable solutions also extends to plastics processing, with equipment adapted for recycled materials, featuring low energy consumption, or even enabling material foaming processes that require the lowest possible material content without altering mechanical properties.
After nearly four decades leading the Iberian market, which technological trends or customer needs do you believe will shape the future of the sector, and how is Comercial Douma preparing to anticipate them?

Digitalisation in the sector is only just beginning. The development of technologies such as artificial intelligence, interconnectivity and robotics will continue to bring improvements to current processes — beyond what we can yet imagine — for example, in optical material sorting.
Of course, the circular design of both new and existing products that are difficult to recycle is essential for improving the sustainability of plastics processing. It is also crucial to develop technologies that help enhance energy efficiency, optimise processes, or improve the quality of mechanically recycled materials, such as de-odourisation, delamination or the treatment of printed materials.
Comercial Douma will continue with its philosophy of staying at the forefront of emerging technologies.
In such a competitive market, how does the company maintain the trust and loyalty of its customers? To what extent do your founding values — tenacity, honesty and teamwork — contribute to this?
In a technical market like this one, tenacity ensures the follow-up of long-term projects, honesty (providing real technical recommendations) prevents false expectations, and teamwork between sales, engineering and service departments ensures reliable deliveries. All of this aligns directly with the practices that foster customer loyalty.
These core values are not just principles; they form the foundation of our way of working.
What does being a Global Partner of Equiplast mean for Comercial Douma? What are your expectations for the 2026 edition?

The plastics sector in Spain does not have a broad supply of nationally manufactured machinery, so since our first participation in 1990 (and having taken part in every edition since), we have considered it essential to facilitate access to the best technologies worldwide to enhance our clients’ competitiveness.
As a Global Partner, we expect maximum visibility at the fair: possible presence in official communications, prominent exhibition areas, joint activities… We also seek strategic networking and institutional positioning with clients and public bodies.
This year, we aim to showcase new solutions we will be presenting at the event and, of course, attract interest from our clients so that they attend this unique and highly significant showcase for our sector.
With only a few months left until the fair, could you give us a general preview of the innovations you will be presenting?

We will be showcasing many innovations, both from our new partners and from our long-standing ones. Highlights include new Uniloy equipment for blowing PE, PP and PET bottles, inspection and quality control for blow-moulded containers, and end-of-line automation; on-line and off-line quality control systems for pellets from Sikora-Plastics (part of the Maag Group), including colour or defect contamination sorting for granules, flakes and powder; new technology for centralised shredding of plastics destined for recycling from our new partner Tria; compact washing and extrusion lines for polyolefin recycling from Lindner Washtech; and Maag-Gala’s new compact, modular underwater pelletising system.
Why would you recommend companies in the sector to visit Equiplast?
Equiplast is the largest meeting point for the sector in the Mediterranean region — an excellent place to meet suppliers, discover new technologies and network with the entire industry. Attending this fair is vital in order to maintain such a close and accessible showcase, bringing together so much technology in a single, well-organised space.
