Interview with Jordi Miró, CEO of Mircan

Mircan, a Barcelona-based family business founded over 45 years ago, distributes leading global high-tech brands across the Iberian Peninsula in the field of polymer production, quality control, and downstream processing through extrusion.
Once again, the company will take part in Equiplast as a Global Partner.

What would you highlight about Mircan’s evolution over the course of more than four decades?
We began with a single represented company, MAAG — an industry benchmark in the international petrochemical sector — and gradually added market-leading brands that approached us on the strength of our reputation. Most are European (from Switzerland, Germany and Italy), with one exception from the United States. We have always prioritised companies that are pioneers in innovation and technology and that support their customers — those that sell not only products but real solutions. We have competitors in Europe and Asia, but we continue to offer more innovative and advanced technology. That has always been our driving force.

What are your key strengths — the aspects that clearly set you apart from the competition?
We are an agile, flexible family business that goes the extra mile for its clients. We distribute top-tier brands, several of which offer unique technologies. Our in-depth knowledge of the market and of production processes makes us an essential point of reference for most processors.

What type of clients do you mainly work with?
We serve both the petrochemical industry and downstream processors, particularly those involved in extrusion processes and, to a lesser extent, injection moulding. We have observed that within the extrusion sector, recyclers are experiencing the most growth, which is why we aim to expand in recycling — one of the areas we want to strengthen further.

Broadly speaking, what products and services are most in demand in each case?
Petrochemical companies seek solutions that reduce their environmental footprint and enable the incorporation of recycled material into their processes. Extrusion clients, in particular, look to optimise productivity and reduce operating costs in a context of increasingly tight margins and strong competition — often from material suppliers outside the region who do not always follow the same rules or comply with the same regulations.

Beyond the Iberian market, do you operate in other countries, or are there plans to make that leap?
The distribution agreements we have with our principals limit our geographic scope to the Iberian Peninsula — that is, Spain and Portugal.

What does being a Global Partner of Equiplast mean for Mircan, and what are your expectations for the 2026 edition?
Frankly, it represents a significant investment for us. For an SME, organising a trade fair presence is quite a challenge: firstly because it requires major logistical effort, and secondly because it is a commitment in which results are not always immediate, and overall costs are very high. For us, it means sowing the seeds now to reap the benefits later. Equiplast is our fair, and we feel it is our duty to contribute. That said, we certainly hope visitor numbers — and quality — will improve even further compared with past editions!

Could you give us a preview of the innovations you will be presenting at the fair in just a few months’ time?
Among the most anticipated will be the official introduction to the Iberian market of a new gear pump for rigid PVC extrusion — a major technological milestone that is already generating considerable excitement among customers. We will also be presenting the new “Prodigio” extrusion die head from Nordson Extrusion Die Industries and Dynisco’s HTF mercury-filled pressure transmitters, suitable for ATEX zones.

Why would you recommend companies in the sector to visit Equiplast?
To survive and grow in a challenging market such as this, companies can no longer rely on the old “keep doing what we’ve always done” formula. They must invest in innovation and adapt their processes to 21st-century technologies. Equiplast is the ideal environment to discover these developments, exchange ideas with industry leaders, and gain first-hand insight into future trends — with proximity and ease, without the overcrowding typical of major global exhibitions.
