Interview with Marcos Durán, CEO of Centrotécnica
With nearly five decades of experience in the plastics processing sector, Centrotécnica has established itself as a leading company in industrial machinery, technological solutions and specialised technical services. Under the leadership of Marcos Durán, the company focuses its strategy on innovation, environmental commitment and constant adaptation to the new needs of the industry. Its participation as a Global Partner at Equiplast 2026 confirms its support for a trade fair that is closely aligned with its principles.
How has your company evolved in recent years within the plastics sector?
Since its beginnings, Centrotécnica has always adapted to the needs of its customers and to the search for the best solutions developed and offered by the leading brands it represents.
We started out as machinery manufacturers and today we continue as representatives of the leading brands for injection moulding, extrusion, blow moulding, thermoforming and peripheral equipment. In recent years, the development of new materials has become highly important and generated considerable interest. In this field, we have supplied numerous BOY machines to laboratories dedicated to these developments.
Likewise, recycling, hand in hand with our brands MODITEC, Engin Plast, Recy and IPS, is now more present than ever, with major technological innovations thanks to the collective work of the engineers at the companies we represent. We have also made progress in industrial refrigeration with Industrial Frigo, improving both energy efficiency and the use of environmentally friendly gases.
What factors have been key in consolidating your market position?
The trust of our customers, without a doubt. Representing brands such as BOY, Helios and BORCHE, among others, generates great confidence. This strengthens our position in the market and ensures we are recognised for our quality and service.
What differentiates Centrotécnica from other suppliers in the sector?
We are a family-run company and we also represent foreign family-owned businesses. This gives us direct access to provide any solution in record time, both for new projects and their development, as well as in the day-to-day work of after-sales service.
We work from Barcelona, hand in hand with Germany, France, Italy and China, as though they were our own branches. We are more of a technological partner to our customers than simply a supplier.
The plastics industry is constantly evolving. What role does innovation play within your business strategy?
In the plastics sector, innovation is part of our work. We have machines that process a material that is indispensable to our lives, whether in healthcare and pharmaceuticals or in logistics, automotive, construction and many other sectors.
We must treat this material with the respect it deserves and keep the planet free from plastic waste. That is why innovation, the development of new materials and increasingly efficient machinery are at the heart of our work today.
How is Centrotécnica addressing the environmental challenges facing the sector?
Representing leading brands also allows us to remain at the forefront of energy efficiency: with BORCHE we hold the 10+ (Euromap 60.1) ultra-efficiency certification, while BOY achieves the 9+ certification across almost its entire range.
As regards plastics circularity, with MO.DI.TEC — a brand present in Europe’s leading multinationals — we achieve high-quality shredding that allows a greater percentage of recycled material to be incorporated alongside virgin material for reuse, eliminating waste. In addition, Industrial Frigo works with environmentally friendly gases in its refrigeration systems.
Our goal is always to remain at the forefront of sustainability and, in the plastics sector, this is essential and represents a genuine spearhead for the future.
What trends do you believe will shape the future of the plastics industry in the coming years?
New materials, zero-waste manufacturing, recycling within production plants themselves and circularity above all else. Sustainability is one of the fundamental pillars of our work.
Plastic is one of the materials that contributes most to reducing CO₂ emissions and improving people’s quality of life. We are aware that it plays an essential role and that we have a responsibility to give it the value it deserves by promoting efficient and responsible recycling.
What does participating in Equiplast mean for Centrotécnica?
Equiplast is our trade fair. It is where we present the latest innovations, reconnect with customers and friends and, for four days, engage with the entire sector.
In addition, we learn from the many proposals, debates and meetings that Equiplast organises with great rigour and professionalism. It is a highly specialised trade fair and an essential benchmark for our industry.
What new developments or proposals will you be presenting at this year’s edition of the trade fair?
We will present the new BOY Full Electric, a machine that many customers are eager to see and experience first-hand. In addition, we will be injecting microplastic-free bioplastic from Benviro, a company with which we collaborate closely.
Flex Blow will showcase the most flexible and efficient preform blow-moulding machine on the market, a true technological marvel. BORCHE will also be present, displaying its latest innovations with the BI Hybrid series, a machine that will mark a new era thanks to its technological level, efficiency and precision.
Why should industry professionals visit Equiplast?
For any professional in the plastics sector, Equiplast is an unmissable event. It is a trade fair where all the machinery can be seen in operation; in just one week we set up genuine mini factories with everything needed to produce using the highest technology available.
