Closing the Loop: Veolia’s Technologies and Strategies to Achieve Circularity of Flexible Packaging

2026-06-02 11:30 2026-06-02 11:50 Europe/Madrid Closing the Loop: Veolia’s Technologies and Strategies to Achieve Circularity of Flexible Packaging Flexible packaging is one of the most complex materials to integrate into the circular economy. Veolia promotes a comprehensive and innovative approach to address this challenge, combining mechanical recycling —with successful cases such as the Lidl project, where bags were developed using 100% recycled material— and the potential of chemical recycling as a complementary technology. Additionally, it relies on the Circularity Guide for Plastics in Green Public Procurement as a strategic lever to promote demand for recycled materials and consolidate a real circular economy. Circularity Combining Sustainability and Food Safety in Industrial and Commercial Plastic Packaging

2026-06-02 11:50 2026-06-02 12:10 Europe/Madrid Circularity Combining Sustainability and Food Safety in Industrial and Commercial Plastic Packaging The LIFECLOOVER2 2023–2027 project is implementing closed-loop systems for the reuse and recycling of polyolefin plastic packaging for agri-food uses. Industrial drums, jerrycans, and commercial fruit and vegetable boxes undergo multiple reuse cycles, after which they are recycled; the resulting raw material is incorporated into the manufacture of new packaging, ensuring functionality and food safety. Coordinated by SINTAC, the project includes industrial partners AGROFRESH, GCR, PALEC ECOLÓGICO and REYDE-GRUPO ARMANDO ALVAREZ, and associations AMAFRUVA and CAPEC. Rethinking Plastic

From waste to resource: intersectoral synergies to valorize textile waste in packaging applications

2026-06-02 12:10 2026-06-02 12:30 Europe/Madrid From waste to resource: intersectoral synergies to valorize textile waste in packaging applications
The SINTEC project (Intersectoral Synergies for the Circular Economy) aims to analyze and activate opportunities for industrial symbiosis between the technical textiles, advanced materials, waste management, and packaging sectors, with a particular focus on the valorization of textile waste with high polymer content, characterized by material complexity, low recyclability, and limited reuse.
Through a methodology that combines waste flow analysis, identification of industrial needs, and intersectoral co-creation processes, the project identifies the potential of these residues as secondary raw materials for the development of new applications, especially in the field of packaging.

Applied research for the implementation of chemical recycling of plastic waste

2026-06-03 11:50 2026-06-03 12:10 Europe/Madrid Applied research for the implementation of chemical recycling of plastic waste Chemical recycling comprises a range of alternatives to treat plastic waste and transform it into new substances that can be reintegrated into production cycles. The path toward its implementation as an industrial reality must address different aspects related both to the processes themselves and to the pre-treatment of waste, as well as improving the quality of the resulting products, in addition to considering economic and regulatory environments. Through activities in R&D projects, the key factors across several of these aspects are identified. Rethinking Plastic

Advanced Mechanical Recycling of Multilayer Packaging for a Circular Economy

2026-06-03 12:10 2026-06-03 12:30 Europe/Madrid Advanced Mechanical Recycling of Multilayer Packaging for a Circular Economy This presentation introduces the new industrial plant of Fych Technologies, dedicated to the recycling of multilayer plastic waste. The facility focuses on the recovery of polyaluminum for the production of rLDPE, the recycling of Bag-in-Box packaging to generate rLDPE, and the production of HDPE and PP blends from bottle caps. The plant will serve as a demonstration of our patented technologies: mechanical delamination, which enables the recovery of materials by removing adhesives and inks, and decontamination, designed to eliminate compounds and odors present in recycled plastics. These processes make it possible to obtain high-value materials suitable for new industrial applications, including pellets and film. Examples of industrial validation and collaboration with manufacturers will be presented, showing how multilayer packaging—traditionally difficult to recycle—can be efficiently integrated into a circular economy, combining technological innovation and sustainability.
