2026-06-02 11:00 2026-06-02 11:30 Europe/Madrid Strategy for the Spanish Plastics Industry, for a circular, climate-neutral, and competitive sector The plastics industry is an essential pillar of the Spanish economy and a key ally in the transition towards a more sustainable world. Its versatility, capacity for innovation, and commitment to the circular economy place it in a strategic position to address major social, economic, and environmental challenges. The Strategy for the Spanish Plastics Industry, developed by EsPlásticos in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, was officially presented in 2025. It is a pioneering initiative that sets out a roadmap for the sector based on five pillars that strengthen its role as a driver of growth, circularity, and climate neutrality. A firm commitment to the future. Rethinking Plastic

Veolia promotes a comprehensive and innovative approach to address this challenge, combining mechanical recycling —with successful cases such as the Lidl project, where bags were developed using 100% recycled material— and the potential of chemical recycling as a complementary technology. Additionally, it relies on the Circularity Guide for Plastics in Green Public Procurement as a strategic lever to promote demand for recycled materials and consolidate a real circular economy. Industrial drums, jerrycans, and commercial fruit and vegetable boxes undergo multiple reuse cycles, after which they are recycled; the resulting raw material is incorporated into the manufacture of new packaging, ensuring functionality and food safety. Coordinated by SINTAC, the project includes industrial partners AGROFRESH, GCR, PALEC ECOLÓGICO and REYDE-GRUPO ARMANDO ALVAREZ, and associations AMAFRUVA and CAPEC. Rethinking Plastic

2026-06-02 12:10 2026-06-02 12:30 Europe/Madrid From waste to resource: intersectoral synergies to valorize textile waste in packaging applications
The SINTEC project (Intersectoral Synergies for the Circular Economy) aims to analyze and activate opportunities for industrial symbiosis between the technical textiles, advanced materials, waste management, and packaging sectors, with a particular focus on the valorization of textile waste with high polymer content, characterized by material complexity, low recyclability, and limited reuse.
Through a methodology that combines waste flow analysis, identification of industrial needs, and intersectoral co-creation processes, the project identifies the potential of these residues as secondary raw materials for the development of new applications, especially in the field of packaging.

2026-06-02 12:30 2026-06-02 13:30 Europe/Madrid Do we have the right regulatory framework to be competitive?
The plastics sector is at a decisive moment. In recent years, the industry has lost competitiveness, production capacity, and global weight. However, with urgent regulatory measures, there is still time to reverse this trend and strengthen the sector’s position both in Spain and in Europe.
The session will address the impact of the regulatory framework on the competitiveness of the plastics sector, analyzing current European and national regulations and identifying the adjustments needed to attract investment, foster innovation, and strengthen industrial autonomy.

Innovation in materials is key to advancing toward a more sustainable model in the plastics sector.
This session will address the challenges and opportunities of biodegradable and next-generation materials from a dual perspective: academic and industrial. Luis Cabedo, Professor of Materials Science at Universitat Jaume I, will analyze the real role of biodegradable plastics in relation to pollution, offering a critical, research-based perspective. Meanwhile, Lorenzo Lizcano (Director of Diversification and New Materials at Viscofan) will present industrial developments in composite materials and selective permeability films for food and healthcare applications.
A session that will contrast science and market perspectives to better understand the present and future of sustainable materials.
